Type Locality and Naming

The naming section is located at Gongkang and Liuxiao and south of Sanjin in the Bose basin, Guangxi. Named by Tang Yingjun et al. in 1974.


Lithology and Thickness

Mainly alternating beds of yellowish green, grayish green and variegated mudstone and sandy mudstone and sandstone, up to 1300–1450 m thick.

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

Its lower part is continuous with the underlying Eocene Nadu Fm.

Upper contact

Its upper part is unconformably overlain by brownish yellow conglomerate of the Pliocene Changsheling Fm [Not yet in English version of Lexicon].

Regional extent

It is mainly exposed in the Bose and Yongle basins, Guangxi.

Fossils

Although this formation is relatively thick, the fossils found in its upper and lower members are essentially the same, mainly including the mammals Heothema chengbiensis, H. media and H. angustiluxia.


Age 

Its age was previously considered to be Early Oligocene (Zheng et al., 1999). Recent study assigns this formation to the Late Eocene (National Commission on Stratigraphy of China, 2018; Li et al., 2019; Wang et al., 2019). [Note: It is coeval with the Yongnng Fm in this same region that spans the Late Eocene (Priabonian Stage); therefore, for map-graphic purposes, shown as the upper portion of that interval.]
